An Adolescent Challenges Her Drinking Buddies To Learn More About Alcohol Dependency and Alcohol Abuse and Begins to to Strengthen Her Positive Attitude, Personal Happiness and Success, and Self Esteem

Diane drank quite excessively on a usual basis with her drinking pals. One Friday after all her classes were completed, she began reflecting on the amount of alcohol she ingested and the hazardous and irresponsible drinking of her drinking buddies. As a consequence of this, she politely asked all of her friends the following question: “what do we really know about alcohol poisoning, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcoholism? Stated more precisely, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our age, we certainly drink in a hazardous and excessive manner and I am really starting to wonder if we are headed for a life filled with alcohol-associated difficulties in the not so distant future.

I think we need to go on the web and find out all that is feasible about alcoholism, alcohol abuse, alcohol poisoning, and binge drinking. And then if we have any relevant issues that we can’t understand after we do our web research, we can make an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Burk to help us understand what we don’t know.”

It Shouldn’t Come as a Big Shock That What Diane Discussed Would Lead to a Heated Discussion

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that what Diane stated would result in a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since the eighth grade, Skyla, said that they are too healthy and too young to be worried about excessive and hazardous drinking. Another buddy named James rationalized that since most youth drink there’s no good reason why they should be any different. Another drinking buddy named Michelle stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her buddies. And still another pal named Jonas essentially agreed with Diane primarily because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related difficulties.

Diane explained to her classmates that she understood everything that they had said but that engaging in excessive and careless drinking at such a young age in reality can’t be very healthy or something that contributes toward developing a meaningful life. When two or three of her buddies asked what kind of alcohol problems Diane was referring to, Diane articulated the following: alcohol-related diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver, heart disease, and cancer, and other alcohol-related problems like alcoholism, alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, and alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances).

Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Often Results in Drinking Problems

When Diane then highlighted the fact that abusive and careless drinking regularly results in school, legal, relationship, and financial problems, some of her drinking friends finally began to understand how wide-ranging and how debilitating abusive and careless drinking can be. Indeed, some of her buddies became more “open” and started to reveal how these alcoholism and alcohol abuse effects had negatively affected their parents and some of their friends.

After discussing some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse problems that are related to irresponsible and hazardous drinking, the vast majority of her pals seemed to like the idea about getting information on the Internet. They were, on the other hand, leery about discussing their drinking circumstances with staff at school. As Diane thought about this she told herself, “at least they want to learn more about their abusive drinking. This is a wonderful start.”
